Wagon Wheels by Barbara Brenner. Pictures by Don Bolognese.

My husband was so excellent to grab this at a book sale. Unknown to him, we read this book a few months ago and I told him the amazing story! How awesome is it that he mistakenly grabbed it? It is a true story of a father and his three sons trying to make their way on new land out West. I don’t want to ruin this title for you, please know this story is amazing and inspiring. Your children will see young children do something they probably never dreamed of! My 2-year-old easily sat through this amazing title, wondering what was going to happen next. If you read any titles about trying times for Pioneers, do read this one.

Sight Word Readers by Scholastic

Sight word readers are short, repetitive, colorful readers for beginners. Each book repeats and focuses on two “sight” words. Each book is eight pages long, the stories are cute, and very rewarding for your child to read. My son easily reads eight books in one sitting to his adoring little brother, which aids memorization, and exposes and commits new words to his memory. He reads the boxes in the back of the book for added exposure. I like them because HE likes them. We are phonetic readers, too, but these are awesome aids.
